Manually enter meter readings

If you still have a classic (analog) meter, then you can manually enter your meter readings at a regular interval, preferably at the beginning of the month. Our forecasting models work with monthly data and a meter reading at the beginning of the month gives the highest accuracy.

Add a manual meter

To manually enter meter readings, you first need to add a meter to your record.

To do this, follow these steps:

  • Open your record and go to Meters.
  • Click on the three dots at the top right of the list and choose Add a manual meter.
  • Select the type of meter you want to create.
  • Select the metric that is being measured.
  • Click Create to add the meter.
IMPORTANT

For electricity meters, additional configuration is required, and you will be asked whether it is a roll-back counter or a bi-directional meter - where offtake and injection are measured separately. You will also have to enter the number of registers your meter has.

Most meters are automatically configured as a cumulative counter. To overrule this setting, change the type of meter readings. Also check the unit of measurement.

Enter new meter readings

  • Open your record and go to Meters.
  • Click on New meter reading at the top of the list.
  • Optionally, change the date or time of the meter reading.
  • Enter the new meter reading for your meters. If you do not have a meter reading for a meter, leave the corresponding field empty.
  • Click Save at the bottom. That is all!
Tip

Are you going on a holiday or a short break? Write down your meter reading when you leave and when you come home. That way you learn how much standby consumption you have.

Add historical meter readings

If you want to quickly know how much you saved compared to last year, we recommend you to also enter your historical meter readings. In case you have a CSV file you can simply import meter readings.

  • Open your record and go to Meters.
  • Click on New meter reading at the top of the list.
  • Change the date or time of the meter reading.
  • Enter the historical meter reading for your meters. If you do not have a meter reading for a meter, leave the corresponding field empty.
  • Click Save at the bottom.
Tip

Take all the energy and water bills that you have in your drawer or mailbox, they usually contain two or more historical meter readings. Enter these into your EnergyID record, and your reports will immediately be a lot more interesting.
